2012 Grant Recipients

For the 2012 Grant Cycle, SCA was pleased to award 19 grants totaling $31,610 in support of the following organizations and projects.

Akvavit Theatre, Chicago, IL     $500

Nordic Spirit Festival: to present 5 stages readings (one from each Nordic country) in an effort to educate Chicago audiences and enrich the Scandinavian culture already present in our city.

American Association for Runic Studies, Roseville MN     $500

Runes in the classroom: To develop a cadre of teachers/educators in Minneapolis and Uppsala to teach about runes and runic writing in the classroom in collaboration with the AARS

American Swedish Historical Museum, Philadelphia, PA     $3,500

Swedish American Line exhibit: To present an exhibit showing the history and impact of the Swedish American Line on Swedish immigration to the United States.

American Swedish Institute, Minneapolis, MN     $4,000

In Our Nature: The Tapestries of Helena Hernmarck: To present an exhibit featuring more than a dozen large-scale textiles by this legendary trompe l’oeil weaver.

Bemidji Affiliate of ASI, Bemidji, MN     $500

Snö Troll: To bring the musical group, Snö Troll, from Stockholm, to provide entertainment at the 2012 Midsommar Fest in Bemidji

Concordia Language Villages, Moorhead, MN     $1,000

Sjölunden: To expand the Swedish language camp’s high school credit media course by creating a curriculum that investigates the impact of Raoul Wallenberg and August Strindberg on Swedish cultural identity

Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, MN     $1,000

Archives: To digitize early 20th-century Swedish-American recordings

Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County, Moorhead, MN     $2,080

Swedish Immigration and Settlement through the Eyes of Peter Bergstrom: To create a traveling exhibit to go to many locations

Nordic Heritage Museum, Seattle, WA     $4,000

Eight Seasons in Sapmi, the Land of the Sami People: To present an exhibition on the culture and history of the Sami people in Norden.

Rendition Theatre, Chicago, IL     $1,000

The Father: To present a theatrical production of August Strindberg’s play at American Swedish Museum
